Nov 2016 update: The latest tour we took with Livia is the Underground Rome: The Hidden City tour with Context and once again Livia made the tour amazing. We loved learning about little know sites around Rome some of which they are still excavating.
The other tour we took was a food tour : Food Tastings, Savoring Rome our guide was a sommelier and an art historian so we really loved the tour is was a great mix of information and food.
This is the only company I would recommend I have taken tours with other operators when I had to but they are never as great as Context with their small group sizes and highly qualified docents. They offer tours all over the world here is a list of them but even if they don’t have a that you want you can contact them and they will work with you for a custom tour.
The last time I went to Italy 4 of us went and we got a custom tour in Florence. We were even able to get private tours in Siena and Pisa. If you go to Rome and take a tour of the Colosseum and Forum request Livia Galante as your guide I have taken at least one tour with her each time and she is amazing in her ability to show you the history of what you are looking at more then anything you would find in a travel book.
